Bereavement Support
Coping with the death of someone close to you can be a challenge, but you are not alone. VON Oxford Hospice & Bereavement Support is available. We offer Individual or Group grief support, facilitated by specially trained volunteers at no cost.
VON volunteers are compassionate people who have chosen to participate as team members along with caregivers and healthcare providers. Volunteers are trained in the Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care, as well as additional specific bereavement support training, and they receive ongoing professional education, guidance and support from our program coordinators.
Grief Care serves as a starting point to assist individuals in navigating life after the death of a loved one. It provides a supportive environment through an open-group format, offering education and fostering connections to help cope with grief. Various groups are run throughout Oxford County including Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, and Woodstock. Please contact us for more information and registration.
Caring Circle
VON Caring Circle is available only to bereavement clients who have previously completed either the six-week closed group, or are in Individual support. This is a drop-in group running once a month for continued grief support.
Journey Through Grief – Closed Psycho-Educational Grief Support Group
This is a closed, eight-week group. Registration takes place prior to group starting. Four groups are run in Oxford County, throughout the year. Our coordinator(s) will meet individually with participants, either in person or virtually to assess needs. This group provides mourners with a foundation for their grief journey. Group is held at the VON Main office by trained staff and volunteers.
Multiple groups are run in Oxford County, throughout the year.
Kids’ Circle and Teens’ Circle
Closed group, multi-week program providing supportive care for grieving children ages 5-12 and teens ages 13-17. This evidence-based program helps your child navigate life and change after the death of a loved one through age appropriate activities, learning to deal with big emotions, coping techniques and conversation. These programs offer youth an opportunity to connect with others who may have experienced a similar loss, nurturing unique connections.
Individual Bereavement Support
Grief is as unique as the person experiencing it. One-to-one grief support sessions are scheduled on an individual basis and are directed according to the needs of the bereaved. This support is offered by specially trained volunteers. Visits can take place in the client’s home, on the phone or virtually.
