Bereavement Support

Bereavement Support

Due to COVID-19, all Bereavement Support Services are currently bring offered by phone or secure video call.

Coping with the death of someone close to you can be a challenge, but you are not alone.  VON Oxford Hospice & Bereavement Support is available. We offer Individual or Group grief support, facilitated by specially trained volunteers at no cost.  VON volunteers are compassionate people who have chosen to participate as team members along with caregivers and healthcare providers.  Volunteers are trained in the Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care, as well as additional specific bereavement support training, and they receive ongoing professional education, guidance and support from our program coordinators.

Caring Circle

We are currently offering Caring Circle virtually twice a month. The date to resume in person is to be determined.

JOURNEY THROUGH GRIEF – CLOSED PSYCHO-EDUCATIONAL GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP

This is a closed, eight-week group. Registration takes place prior to group starting. Four groups are run in Oxford County, throughout the year. Our coordinator(s) will meet individually with participants, either in person or virtually to assess needs. This group provides mourners with a foundation for their grief journey. Group is held at the VON Main office by trained staff and volunteers.

Kids’ Circle

A closed 8-week program providing supportive care for grieving children who are 5-12 years old who have experienced the death of a loved one. Kids’ Circle runs in tandem with Parents’ Circle – a coordinated and complimentary program supporting the parents or caregivers of the child attending Kids’ Circle.

Teens’ Circle

A closed 6-week program providing supportive care for teens who are between 13-16 years old who have experienced the death of a loved one.

Individual Bereavement Support

Grief is as unique as the person experiencing it.  One-on-one grief support sessions are assessed and scheduled on an individual basis and are directed according to the needs of the bereaved.  This support is offered with the help of specially trained volunteers. To arrange an assessment for service, please contact one of our coordinators listed below.
